Labor-saving and state-of-the-art, ALIAS uses a high-resolution flatbed
scanner to optically scan, measure, and characterize large samples of
particles. Developed in cooperation with CRI International Inc., the
industry leader in catalyst technology, ALIAS can triple productivity
while achieving high accuracy and decreasing measurement variability
from site-to-site and person-to-person.
ALIAS is in use in dozens of plants and labs around the world. Currently in its seventh major release, ALIAS has been relied upon for more than twenty years by companies who value accuracy, repeatability, and dependability.
If you're using calipers to measure particles, ALIAS can boost your throughput and revolutionize your characterization capabilities. Typically, ALIAS is used in a lab or plant environment where the size and shape of particles are a performance or quality control benchmark. While ALIAS is primarily designed to measure the physical dimensions and curvature of particles, it also provides data needed to compute additional properties, such as particle volume and density.
To measure a sample, simply sprinkle the particles on the scanner, separate them, and click the mouse. Then examine the displayed results to ensure that all has proceeded as expected.
ALIAS provides both standard and weighted statistical measures such as sample average, standard deviation, median, kurtosis, and skewness. It also generates fully customizable histograms for any of the measured parameters. With ALIAS, several samples can be compared at once and subsets of samples can be separated for analysis.
The operator can zoom in on, swap the dimensions of, and remove any particle desired.
ALIAS provides standard report formats that are fully customizable. ALIAS can also export its data directly to Microsoft Excel and to ASCII text files.
ALIAS measures the length and diameter of particles as if it were using virtual calipers. It handles even curved and jagged particles, measuring them from tip to tip. ALIAS also provides additional data that calipers can not provide, such as the curvature and the area of each particle.

ALIAS is currently available in version 3.7, and runs on Windows 10 (64-bit). It comes with a computer and a calibrated Epson Perfection V800 Photo scanner. ALIAS users should periodically check this site and download the most recent version of the ALIAS Help file, for the statements and operating guidance in the most recent version of the Help file take precedence over the version of the Help file that shipped with their ALIAS system.

Update for ALIAS Versions with Epson Perfection V700 and V800 Photo Scanners
This update will adjust your ALIAS settings to improve the ALIAS algorithm for selecting which dimension is the diameter of a particle. (Details are in the ALIAS Help File linked above.)
To install it, unzip this file into your ALIAS directory (typically C:\ALIAS\), and execute it when ALIAS isn't running, and click the large button.
(This update is unnecessary for units with the Epson Perfection V800 Photo Scanner if you install the upgrade to version 220.127.116.11 below.)
Upgrade for ALIAS Versions with the Epson Perfection V800 Photo Scanner
This upgrade will give users the most up-to-date version of ALIAS, version 18.104.22.168. Among other things, it adds a new "Values" page that makes it easier to cut-and-paste data from ALIAS to other programs.
If you currently have ALIAS version 3.7, then you need this file:

Find your ALIAS version number by running ALIAS and clicking on Help | About... in the menu bar.
Download the .zip file into your ALIAS directory and follow the simple included instructions for copying the files over.
Do not attempt to apply this upgrade to ALIAS units that shipped with an Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner. It will not work with those systems because your HASP hardware key is incompatible with it, and will likely prevent your ALIAS unit from functioning.
